Il 15 giugno 2023, il Museo Morgagni ospiterà una conferenza sui Surgeons' Hall Museums di Edimburgo tenuta da Cat Irving dal titolo “Bloody Knives and Body Snatchers: The Museum at Surgeons' Hall”.

Il Royal College of Surgeons di Edimburgo è una delle più antiche istituzioni chirurgiche del mondo e ospita la più grande collezione museale di patologia chirurgica. Cat Irving è la conservatrice di resti umani che si prende cura di questa collezione dal 2015 e ci guiderà attraverso la sua storia, che include un re a cui piaceva strappare i denti ai suoi sudditi, un chirurgo che poteva amputare una gamba in 28 secondi e una coppia di serial killer che avrebbero cambiato il modo in cui veniva praticata l'anatomia nel Regno Unito. Cat ci parlerà anche di alcune delle persone che lavorano nel museo. Collezioni come questa sono spesso viste come ciò che rimane di un vecchio modo di insegnare anatomia e patologia, ma Cat ci parlerà di come viene utilizzata oggi la collezione di Surgeons' Hall e della sua importanza nel ventunesimo secolo.

La conferenza sarà in lingua inglese e si terrà alle ore 11h30 presso l'Aula Cagnetto nel complesso degli Istituti Anatomici in via A. Gabelli, 61 (Padova).

On June 15th, 2023, the Morgagni Museum will host a lecture on Surgeons' Hall Museums of Edinburgh (UK) by Cat Irving titled Bloody Knives and Body Snatchers: The Museum at Surgeons’ Hall.

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is one of the oldest surgical institutions in the world, and home to the largest collection of Surgical Pathology. Cat Irving is a human remains conservator who has cared for this collection since 2015. She will take us through its history – which includes a king who liked to pull out his subjects’ teeth, a surgeon who could amputate a leg in 28 seconds, and a pair of serial killers who would change the way anatomy was practiced in the UK – and introduce some of the people who inhabit the museum. Collections like this are often seen as relics of an old way of teaching anatomy and pathology, but Cat will also discuss how Surgeons’ Hall’s collection is used today, and its relevance in the twenty-first century.

The lecture will be held in English and it will take place in Aula Cagnetto in the building of the Anatomical Institutes in via A. Gabelli, 61 (Padua) at 11.30am.
